A research project launched by Prof P.Vijayaprakash and founded by Visakhapatnam Port Trust has been completed and the report submitted to NMF Regional Chapter and Visakhapatnam Port Trust.

Title of the project:

Andhra Pradesh Maritime Environment, Heritage and Culture: A Diachronic Study of the three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.

It is proposed to extend the study to the other seven coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, the largest maritime state in India providing useful material for further research and for the benefit of policy makers in preparing coastal development programmes.

It is also proposed to have copies of the School Primer on Maritime History of India authored by officers of Eastern Naval Command and released on January 3,2011 by Vice Admiral Anup Singh, distributed among the local schools and debates and quiz programmes organized on maritime history for the benefit of school children. The Regional Chapter has obtained 140 copies of the Primer for distribution among schools and libraries, thanks to the financial support given by Dr S.Vijayakumar Chairman & Mg. Director of Vijay Nirman. Mrs Nani Singh, wife of Vice-Admiral Anup Singh FOC-in-Chief ENC presented some copies to students of local schools.

Prof Mrs B.Parvati’s English translation (draft) of Mr Bhavaraju Venkata Krishna Rao’s work in Telugu on Ancient Maritime History of Andhra was presented on July 12 to the Chairman and Director of NMF to Vizag for their kind perusal.
